As an AI publisher, Lost Books makes a point of trying out the latest AI tools to see how they fare in the creation of fictional narratives and world-building. If you’re into this space, you’ve certainly already heard — or tried — ChatGPT, the latest offering from OpenAI. Here’s a quick review of our experience using it to write books.
First reactions
Initially, we didn’t like ChatGPT, because we were not easily able off the bat to get it to have the kinds of creative conversations which come naturally with Character.ai. The filters and safety features of ChatGPT at first make it seem like the model is very stiff and boring to use.
But we stuck with it and modulated our approach somewhat, and successfully managed to use it to produce and publish three books in under a week. Here are those books, so you can get a sense of the quality for yourself.
